“She is clothed with strength and dignity,
and she laughs with no fear of the future.”
Proverbs 31:25 NLT

Someone made a video of a woman on a subway laughing at something she saw on her cell phone. No one else on that subway saw what she saw, but everyone there was impacted by her laughter. Check this out:

I don’t know what the average viewer thinks or does while watching that, but I can’t stop laughing [to the point of tears] every time! And after I calm down, it also gets me thinking…

What if my faith in Christ were that contagious?

What if I were THAT joyful at being a saved child of God – that I would laugh on the subway about how incredibly blessed I am?

I used to laugh ALL. THE. TIME. As a kid, I laughed so much that I was sometimes called “giggle britches” by some of my parents’ friends. As an adult, I don’t have anyone calling me giggle britches. (I’m okay with that… Please don’t start.) I don’t laugh quite so loud or quite so often anymore. The stresses of life are so much more loud and “in my face” as an adult then ever as a child. It’s so much easier to be distracted by them than it is to be sharpened by them.

But just as I was thinking about that, God placed the Proverbs 31 woman on my heart. Among her many amazing qualities, this is the one I wish to embody the most:

She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs with no fear of the future.” (Prov. 31:25 NLT)

Strength, dignity and laughter: the perfect blend of childhood joy balanced out with the fortitude a well-aged relationship with Christ. What if God built each of us – man, woman and child – to live that kind of life and be that BOLD with our joy. Because we know the truth about our past and our future, we can have the confidence to create ripples just like that subway woman every single day.

The challenge: Ask God to bless you with joy. Ask him to allow you to LAUGH – laugh out loud with no fear of the future. Be a Proverbs 31:25 Man, Woman or Child as often as you can today. Comment below on the results you see!

Dear Lord, your joy is our strength. Let that joy overflow in us so that we can walk through each day this week unable to contain it. Make our faith as contagious as laughter on a subway. Bless us with bold gratitude in your son’s name. Amen.
