Limitless

Strengthen

“There’s a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish.
But what good is that with this huge crowd?”
John 6:9 NLT

If I took a poll today, what do you think would get more votes:

  1. I make most of my decisions based upon my limitations.
  2. I make most of my decisions based upon my abilities.

Unless I’m feeling adventurous, I tend to be swayed more by my limitations than my abilities. I feel a little bit like a scaredy-cat admitting that, but sometimes my can’t‘s seem more real than my can‘s.

I bring this up because I just re-read John’s account of Jesus, his disciples, the 5,000, the five loaves and two fish. (If you don’t know about this one, you can check it out here.) This little boy – who isn’t even spoken of by name – is the ONLY PERSON in a crowd of 5,000+ people who thought to bring a snack?! I’m already impressed. Then, he doesn’t keep that simple amount to himself, nor is there any evidence he protests the idea that it would feed this crowd. Even the disciples can’t seem to wrap their head around this idea…

What’s up with this little guy?

He had enough faith to give these seven little gifts to Jesus and trust that Jesus would do exponential things with them. Or nothing with them. The truth is, he probably had no idea what Jesus would do with his resources, but he gave them all anyway.

  • He didn’t resist based upon what his eyes logically told him was impossible.
  • He didn’t try to keep them and leverage them himself to help the masses.

He gave all he had to someone who he trusted and the stood back and let God do what God does: AWESOMENESS. He didn’t make a decision based upon his own personal limitations or abilities. He let God decide what was enough.

What can I hand over to God today for him to do his awesomeness with?

In the movie We Bought A Zoo, one of the characters says “You know, sometimes all you need is 20 seconds of insane courage, just literally 20 seconds of embarrassing bravery, and I promise you something great will come of it.” As a Christian, we could call that faith.

I challenge you today to have a 20 second moment of insane courage, embarrassing bravery, PURE FAITH to hand our little abilities, our little limitations, our seven “loaves and fish” over to his big, limitless hands.

Comment below if you’re up for the challenge and how I can pray for you!!!!!

Dear Lord, I’m going for it. I’m going to stop trying to act logically and stop trying to do it all myself. I’m handing whatever I am over to you and I’m going to trust that you will do what needs to be done with my gifts, abilities, and journey. Please make me strong and courageous, full of many 20-seconds-of-BIG-faith moments to surrender to you. Let me see and share all the ways you make my little limitless. Amen.
